    Sentences of the holy Scripture.

    If the vngodly will tourne
    awaye from all his sinnes

    D.i.

    10
that hee hath done & keepe
    my commaundementes and
doe the thinge that is equall
    and righte doubtles he shall
liue, & not die, As for all his
sinnes yt hee did before, they
    shall not be thoughte vpon
    but in his righteousnesse
that he hathe donne he shall
    lyue
, for I haue no pleasure
in the Deathe of a sinner
    Saithe the Lorde God but
rather yt he conuerte & liue.
    Wherfore be conuerted and
turne ye clene fro~ all youre
    wickednesse, so shall there
    11
    no sinne do you harme.
    Tourne you vnto me saith
the Lorde of Hostes, and I
    will tourne me vnto you.

    Except ye repent, ye shall
    al perishe
    saith Christ.
    There shalbe ioy in the
    presence of the Aungels, of
    God ouer one Sinner that
    repenteth
    .
    Amende your liues for the
kingdome of god is at hand.
    A sorowfull spirite is a
    sacrifice to God, despise not
    O God, humble and contrit
    hartee.

    D.ii.

    12
    Let the vngodlye man forsake
    his owne waies, & the
    vnrighteous his owne imaginations
    & tourne againe
vnto the lord, so shall he bee
mercifull vnto him & to our
God, for he is readye to forgeue.
    Tourne you vnto mee
saith the lord with all your
    hartes, with fastinge, weeping
    and mourning.
    Rent your heartes, & not
    youre clothes. Tourne you
    vnto the Lorde youre God,
for he is gracious, & mercyfull
    ,
    longe sufferinge and of
    13
    greate compassion, and ready
    to pardon wickednes.
    Make no tarying to tourne
vnto the Lorde, and put not
of from daye to daye, or sodenly
    shall his wrathe come
    and in time of vengeaunce
    he shall destroy thee.
Turne vs O God our sauioure,
    and let thine anger
    cease from vs. Co~uerte thou
me and I shall be conuerted
for thou art my Lorde God.
    If we knowledge our
    sinnes, God is faithfull and
iust to forgeue vs oure sins

    D.iii.

    14
and to cleanse vs from all
    vnrighteousnes.
    DEarely beloued brethre~
    the Scripture mouethe
vs in sundrye places to acknowledge
    & confesse oure
    manifolde sinnes and wickednes
    and that we shoulde
    not dissemble nor cloke the~
    before the face of almightye
    god our heuenly father but
    confesse them with an humble
    lowly penitent and obedient
    hart, to the ende that
    wee maye obtaine forgeuenes
of the same by his infinite
    goodnesse, and mercy
    and althoughe we ought at
    al times humbly to acknowledge
    oure sinne before god
    yet ought we moste chieflye
so to do when they assemble
    & meete together, to render
    thankes for the great benefites
    that we haue receued
at his handes to sette forthe
    his moste worthy praise, to
heare his most holy worde, &
    to aske those thinges which
    be requisit and necessary as
well for the body as ye soule
    Wherefore I praye & besech

    D.iiii.

    15
you, as manye as bee heare
    present, to accompanye mee
with a pure harte and humble
    voice vnto the throne of
    the heauenly grace saing.

    A confession of sinnes.

    ALmightye & most mercyfull
    father I haue erred
    and strayed from thy waies
like a loste sheepe, I haue folowed
    to muche the deuises
    and desires of mine owne
    hearte, I haue offended againste
    thy holye lawes, I
    haue lefte vndonne those
    thinges whiche I oughte to
    16
haue done, and I haue done
    those thinges whiche I
ought not to haue done and
there is no healthe in mee:
but thou O Lord haue mercy
    vpon me miserable offender.
    Spare thou mee O
    god which confesse my faultes,
    Restore thou me that
    am penitente accordinge to
    thy promises declared vnto
    mankinde in Christ Iesu
    oure Lorde. And graunte
    O most mercifull father for
his sake, that I maye hereafter
    lyue a godlye, righteous
    17
& sober lyfe to the glory
    of thy holy name. Amen.

    Or els this prayer folowing

    ALmightye GOD, the Father
    of oure Lorde Iesus
    Christ whiche desirest not
the deathe of a Sinner, but
    rather thet he maye tourne
    from his wikednes and liue
    and hathe geuen power and
    commandement to thy ministers
    to declare and pronounce
    to the people beinge
    penitent, the absolution and
    remission of their sinnes and
    pardonest and absolueste all
    18
    them which truelye repente
    and vnfainedlye beleue his
    holy gospell, I beseethe thee
    to graunte mee true repentaunce
    and thy holye spirite
    that those thinges may please
thee, whiche I doe at this
present & that the reste of my
    life hereafter maye be pure
and holy, so that at the laste
I maye come to thy eternall
    ioye throughe Iesus Christ
    our Lord. Amen.
    OUr Father which art
    in Heauen, halowed
    be thy name. Thy kingdom
    19
come. Thy will bee done in
earth as it is in heauen.
Giue vs this day our dayly
    breade. And forgeue vs our
    treaspasses, as we forgeeue
    them that trespasse againste
vs And let vs not be leadde
    into temptation. But deliuer
    vs from euill.
    Amen.

    Then saye.

O Lord ope~ thou my lips
    And my mouthe shal
    shew forth thy praise.

O God make speede to saue
    mee.
O Lord make hast to helpe

    Venite. Psalm. xcv.

O Come lette vs singe vnto
    the Lorde
    , let vs hartelye
    reioyce in the strength
    of our saluation.
    Let vs come before his
    presence with thanckes geuinge

    and shewe our selues
    glad in him with psalmes.
For the Lorde is a greate
    GOD, and a greate Kinge
    boue all gods.

In his handes are al the
    corners of the Earthe, and
    the strengthe of the hilles
    21
    is his also
The sea is his and he made
    it, and his handes prepared
    the dry land.
    O come let vs worshippe
and fall down & knele before
    the Lord our maker.
For he is the Lorde our
god, and wee are the people
of his pasture, & the sheepe
    of his handes.
To day if ye will heare his
    voice, harden not your hartes
    as in the prouocation, &
as in the daye of temptatio~
    in the wildernes.
    22
    When your fathers tempted
    me proued me and sawe
    my workes.
    Forty yeares long was I
    greeued withe this generation,
and saide it is a people
that doe erre in their hartes
    for they haue not knowen
    my waies.

    Vnto whome I sware in
    my wrath that they shoulde
    not enter into my rest.
    Glory be.&c. As it was.&c.

    Beatus vir. Psalm.i.

    BLessed is that man that
    hathe not walked in the
    23
    counsaile of the vngodlye
nor stande in the waye of
    sinners, and hathe not sitte
in the seat of the scornefull.
But his delighte is in the
lawe of the Lord, and in his
    law will he exercise himselfe
    both day and nighte.
And he shalbe like a tree
    planted by the water side
    that will bringe forthe his
    fruite in due season.
His leafe also shall not wither,
    and loke what so euer
    he doth it shall prosper.
As for the vngodly it is
    24
not so withe them, but they
are like ye chaffe whiche the
    wind scattereth away from
    the face of the earth.
    Therfore the vngodlye shal
not be able to stande in the
    iudgemente neither the sinners
    in the congregation of
    the righteous.
    But the Lorde knowethe
the way of the righteous &
the way of the vngodly shal
    perishe.
    Glory be.&c. As it was.&c.

    Domine quid. Psalm.iij.

    LOrde, howe are they increased

    E.i.

    25
    that trouble me.
    Manye are they that rise
    against me.
    Manye one there be that
saye of my soule there is no
helpe for him in his God.
But thou O Lord, art my
    defender, thou arte my worship,
and the lifter vp of my
    heade.
I did call vpon the lorde
with my voice, and he harde
me out of his holy hill.
I layd me downe and slepte
and rose againe for that the
    lord sustained me.
    26
I will not be afraid of
    ten thousand of people that
    haue set themselues against
    me rounde about.
Vp lorde and helpe me, O
my God, for thou smitest all
    myne enemyes vppon the
    cheke bone thou hast broke~
    the teth of the vngodly.
    Saluation belongeth vnto
    the lorde, and thy blessinge
    is vpon the people.

    Glory be.&c. As it was.&c.

    Cum inuocarem. Psalm.iiii.

    HEare mee when I call
    O GOD, of my righteousnes

    E.ii.

    27
    thou haste set me at
liberty when I was in trouble,
    haue mercy vpon me, &
    harken vnto my prayer.
O ye sonnes of men, how
    long will ye blaspheme min
    honour, and haue such pleasure
    in vanity and seeke after
    leasing.
    Knowe this also that the
    Lord hath chosen to himself
the man that is godly when
I call vpon the Lorde he wil
    heare me.
    Stande in awe and sinne
    not co~mon with your owne
    28
    hart, and in your Chamber
    and be still.
Offer to god the sacrifice of
    righteousnes and put youre
    truste in the Lord.
    There be manye that wil
say, who will shewe vs any
    good.
Lord lift thou vp the light
    of thy cou~tenance vpon vs.
    Thou hast put gladnes in
    my harte
    since the time that
    their Corne and Wine and
    Oyleincreased.
I will laye mee downe in
peace and take my reste, for

    BLessed is that man that
    feareth the Lord
    he hath

    A good man is mercyfull

He shall not be a fraide of

    His hart is stablished and

    He hath dispersed

The second lesson taken out of the xx. Chapter to the Romaines.

    I Beseche you brethren, by
    the mercifullnes of God,
    97
    that you make your bodyes
    a quicke sacrifice, holye and
    acceptable vnto God which
    is your reasonable seruing
of god, and fashion not your
    selues like vnto this worlde
but be you chaunged in your
shape by ye opening of your
    minde, that ye may proue
what thinge that good & acceptable
    and perfect will of
    God is.
For I say, thorow the grace
that vnto me geuen is to euery
    man amonge you that
no ma~ stand hie in his owne
    98
    conceit more than it becommeth
    him to esteme of himselfe
    but to iudge of himself
that he be gentle and sober
    according as God hath delte
to euery man the measure of
faith, for as we haue manye
    members in one bodye, and
    all members haue not one
office so we being many are
    one body in Christ
    and euery
    man amonge our selues
    one anothers members.
